IEC 60335-2-17 Spark Ignition Test Equipment for Electric Blanket Flame Retardancy
Product Overview:
This spark ignition test device is designed in full compliance with IEC 60335-2-17, Clause 30.101, Figure 112 & Figure 113.
It is specifically developed to evaluate the flame retardancy and arc ignition resistance of flexible heating appliances used for personal or bedding heating.
The equipment verifies whether arc discharge from live parts can cause overheating, ignition, or combustion of the outer covering material under elevated temperature conditions.
Applicable Test Samples:
Electric blankets
Heating pads
Other flexible electric heating appliances intended for heating beds or the human body
Test Objective:
The test aims to determine whether the outer covering materials of flexible heating appliances can withstand electrical arcing without causing flame propagation or hazardous overheating, ensuring compliance with IEC safety requirements.
Test Principle:
The specimen is placed inside a temperature-controlled heating chamber and conditioned at 65°C ± 2°C for 3 hours.
After conditioning, the sample is mounted on a standard-compliant electrode support, with the electrode gap precisely set to 6.0 mm ± 0.1 mm.
A 10 kV sinusoidal rated voltage is applied across the electrodes. An adjustable non-inductive resistor is connected in series to maintain a short-circuit current of 1 mA, while ensuring the output voltage drop does not exceed 100 V.
The power is applied for 2 minutes, and the time taken for the spark to reach the inner edge of the template is recorded.
The final result is determined by calculating the average ignition time in accordance with IEC 60335-2-17 requirements.
System Configuration:
The spark ignition test system consists of:
High-voltage control unit (including 10 kV power supply)
Heating chamber (optional)
Standardized test bracket assembly
